Metatek Group Ltd. (TSX: MTEK) said on August 4, 2026 that the Department of Energy of the Philippines has awarded it a multi-disciplinary airborne geoscience contract covering data acquisition, processing and interpretation. The Calgary-based company said the award followed a competitive international tender.
According to the release, the company plans to mobilise its full tensor gravity gradiometry system and begin in-country operations in the fourth quarter of 2026. Full tensor gravity gradiometry, or FTG, measures small variations in the earth's gravitational field from an aircraft to infer the structure of rock formations below the surface.
The company did not disclose a contract value, a survey area, a line-kilometre figure or a completion date. That omission matters for a services business, because revenue from a government survey programme is recognised as the work is flown and processed rather than at award. Without a stated value or scope, the financial contribution of the contract cannot be assessed from the announcement.
Metatek describes itself as the exclusive global provider of Enhanced Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometry (eFTG) and Digital Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometry (dFTG). The Philippine award is the company's first programme in that country, and the company says it now works for five national governments across Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim under eFTG-led programmes.
The stated purpose of the work is to help the Philippine Department of Energy improve its picture of the country's subsurface geology and flag areas that could support future resource development. Metatek says large parts of the country have not been covered by modern, high-resolution airborne geophysical surveys.
Chief executive Mark Davies framed the award as the possible start of a longer engagement rather than a single job. "National geoscience programs are typically delivered in phases over a number of years," he said, adding that the timing and scope of any further work "will remain subject to government priorities and funding."
That caveat is the operative one. The announcement establishes a first contract with a new sovereign client; it does not commit the Philippine government to follow-on phases, and no option or extension terms were described.
Readers should note that the details above come from a company press release, which is a marketing document. The award has not been independently confirmed, and the company gave no updated financial figures alongside it.
