The U.S. Air Force awarded Xos its **first defense contract** on August 17, selecting the commercial fleet charging company to build a prototype deployable battery system. For Xos, which has sold electric trucks and mobile charging equipment to delivery fleets, ports, and municipalities, it is the company's first entry into the defense market.

Xos, Inc. NASDAQ: XOS

The award came through the Air Force Global Strike Command Rapid Capabilities Division 2026 Showcase, a program designed to move commercial technology into military use quickly. The agreement is a prototype Other Transaction Agreement — a contract type the Pentagon uses to engage vendors outside traditional defense procurement channels. Xos will adapt its Xos Hub™ mobile battery storage system for military field conditions, with assembly at its Byrdstown, Tennessee facility, according to the company's release. **The period of performance runs into late 2027.**

The contract carries **no disclosed dollar value** and covers a single prototype. That is the catch for anyone holding the stock: a prototype agreement opens a vendor to the defense market but does not commit the Air Force to production orders. The company says it intends to pursue further defense opportunities, without specifying what or when.

Shares **closed 112.44% higher at $4.4400** on August 18, after the announcement, on dollar volume of about $488 million across about 809,000 trades.

The company's free float stood at about 7.9 million shares. Short volume on the session was about 19.1 million shares — **more than twice the float.**

One prototype, no follow-on. The next move belongs to the Air Force.
